Emil Granberg (B. Engineering, Industrial Management & Engineering) joined our team at the beginning of 2022 for the role of Sales Engineer. Nowadays he works as a Project Manager leading a dedicated team in Rauma.
Emil has a background in interior design for cruise ship conversions and drydock support, followed by experience with a manufacturer of high-speed governmental and naval special vessels. With former experience in the field, Emil discovered an open vacancy in NIT and took the opportunity to join the team as Sales Engineer in 2022.
As Sales Engineer Emil played a crucial role at the customer interface with shipyards and shipowners. Responsibilities included receiving and managing RFQs, and conducting calculations and estimations in order to create tailor made quotations for shipbuilding projects. He also sees engaging in negotiations, ship visits and travelling to customers as meaningful for the role.
Later on, Emil embraced the opportunity to step into the role of Project Manager, leading the NIT project in Rauma. Emil says that this role has broadened his perspective of shipbuilding, learning something new about turnkey solutions and complexities of shipbuilding every day. Despite the fast-paced nature of the industry, he finds it rewarding to work together as a team, finding ways to solve challenges, and seeing the ship take shape from phase to phase.
Work of the Project Manager consists of customer communications, routine onboard meetings as well as project meetings internally and with the client. Emil shares that shipbuilding can be hectic and situations vary depending on the building phase of the project. “Monitoring the schedule and following key milestones, like inclining tests and sea trials, is essential. Overseeing these, enables us to prioritize the work.”
Navigating complex projects requires problem-solving skills, and Emil emphasizes the trust he places in the team with this. He admits that shipbuilding means overcoming challenges nearly on a daily basis – and tackling them one by one together. When facing challenges, like unexpected schedule changes or full change orders of the project, transparency and diplomacy of negotiations is the key to continue the project.
“I have a very experienced team, able to handle and adapt to the nature of the project. I trust them fully to follow through with agreed actions, even if under pressure. “
