Tuomas Vainio (B. Sc. Bio and Food Technology Engineering) joined NIT in 2019 working with the design department. Later in 2023 Tuomas courageously took over the role of Quality and Development Manager, and now takes care of our GreeNIT Quality Management System.
Tuomas thrives in collaboration, working together with all the departments to ensure NIT processes run smoothly and are continuously developed. He focuses on identifying challenges and planning effective solutions, as well as proactively preventing issues and minimizing risks. In addition to internal and external audits, development matters arise in active conversations with all our stakeholders – shipyards, suppliers, subcontractors, owners, and also employees. Tuomas sees that no one is able to tackle problems alone, but with close cooperation of departments. “Personnel of each department are the best experts of their work – and hence a very important part in the development process.”
With 10 years of experience in the food industry across quality, purchasing, and technical departments, Tuomas found his way to shipbuilding. He says to always have had interest for technical fields and the decision to join NIT was easy. Starting as a 3D Designer, he soon advanced to Project Coordinator, working closely between design and production departments.
The complexity of the shipbuilding industry, a field full of variables and challenges, keeps Tuomas enthusiastic. “Interesting part of this job is that ideas might come up whenever: driving to training, in a sauna, in the queue of the store, jogging, watching tv… The key is to capture those ideas for later.” He thinks that this job will keep him interested for many years to come. “There will not be a day when things would get boring as everything is ready. “
Outside of work, Tuomas is a passionate futsal enthusiast, having played in the tier 1 league for over 10 years. Today, he continues as a professional coach, bringing the same dedication and teamwork to his work as he does in game. “Team sports have really given me a lot of support and insights to functioning in working life.”
