NIT Naval Interior Team, established in 2000, is a group of companies specializing in turnkey interior design and construction deliveries for all kinds of vessels. The company designs and builds various passenger and crew areas, such as restaurants and stairways, including insulation, electrical installation, piping and HVAC. NIT’s vision is to be the most respected partner in the industry by providing sustainable and innovative solutions for the leading Shipyards and Owners.

The story of determined entrepreneurship

The NIT dream was born when two boys watched ships being built from the outskirts of a small town in Western Finland. Jari Suominen and Kenneth Luoma headed in the direction of shipbuilding, had a rough ride, and started their own company, Naval Interior Team Ltd, in 2000 together with Arto Naumala. NIT soon became one of the main suppliers to the Turku, Helsinki and Rauma shipyards. Right from the start the company gained the trust of the leading shipowners in the industry, Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean International.

NIT strengthened its ownership with four new owners in 2018 when Mr. Luoma decided to retire. The new owners, Vesa Heikkinen, lkka Hiekkanen, Sebastian Lagerlöf, Juhani Määttänen, and later also Roni Nuttunen brought with them broad experience from different shipbuilding companies. Today NIT remains an entrepreneurial company with all the owners actively involved in the day-to-day running of the company. We build interiors for the world’s leading shipyards, but our roots stay solidly in Piikkiö, Finland.

During the years NIT has grown into a great team of shipbuilding professionals. This team is working together, maintaining the good atmosphere according to our values: enjoy doing. From just a small office the company expanded to nowadays up to nine locations. In 2018 NIT founded a permanent subsidiary in Germany, with a local team and projects to strengthen the operations in Europe and around the globe. 

The company’s business idea has remained the same because it works: find the best people, take good care of them and do everything possible with them to earn the trust of every single customer.
